Movie review, Mr. Woodcock
Mad Season 105 views
I watched this film under a week ago. I thought it had a funny title so i decided to go and watch it. Anyway, it stars Susan Sarandon, Billy Bob Thornton & Seann Willam Scott. *slight spoiler warning*: The plot goes like this, Mr. Woodcock is a gym/PE teacher whos a hardass, straight laced asshole. He treats everyone like shit basically especially the kids in his gym class. Our “Hero” John Farley (Scott) happened to be one of these kids whom Mr. Woodcock basically suggests is fat and pathetic, and will remain so for the rest of his life.
Fast forward years later, John becomes a hugely successful writer, writing about ironically, “letting go of the past”. Anyway, the story revolves around John, who after finding out that Mr. Woodcock is dating his mum decides to get even and makes it his life mission to split them up.
After watching art flicks aplenty over the last couple of months this was a welcome change. I don’t particularly like Seann William Scott or Billy Bob Thornton but I thought the slap stick name calling was funny. I think Billy Bob did a good job of playing Mr. Woodcock because he didnt really have to act much. Billy Bob was playing himself. An asshole, cause he looks like one too. Seann William Scott well, I just can’t see him as any other character apart from Stiffler (American Pie) Or E.L from road trip.
So the conclusion is: if you want a film thats just laid back corny, with some slapstick typical American humour then yeah go watch it. Besides, I don’t know what it is about me. I don’t like Hollywood so called blockbusters, but i like shit like this. Im a person of 2 extremes: I like dark, poetic, dramatic art flicks on the one hand, and then there are films like this.
Ah before i forget here is my rating: Comedy, 6 bits of pebbledash out of 10 pieces of shit.
